Project Kickoff

January 2, 2006 at 12:00 pm | In events, tech, austin |

Work officially begins on the site. The first order of business is to create the skyline shapes. I go online to try to find a suitable image to start from, but with no success. “Not Austiny enough”, says my wife to a couple of contenders. The problem is that none of them manage to include downtown and UT, both of which are highly visible elements of Austin culture.

Luckily I remember that you can indeed see both from the top of Mount Bonnell external link , so I grab the digital camera, get on my bike and off I go! For those of you up North, yes, some January days can be excellent for riding here in Austin, and this happened to be one of them. On the way I also remember there’s a decent view of downtown from an overlook external link on Loop 360, so I go there first. I don’t think I’ll need these shots, but when I get to Mount Bonnell I’m glad I got them because it turns out the Capitol is mostly obscured by another building when viewed from there. When I get home I can superimpose the image from the overlook. I mean, you gotta have the Capitol in the Austin Skyline, right?
